Children often demonstrate signs of difficulty adjusting to changes at home, with friends, in school, or following a significant life event. Reactions to change vary with each child, but many become agitated, depressed or anxious.

For these children, SCCS offers the Early Periodic Screening, Diagnosis and Treatment (EPSDT) program for the purpose of detecting, as early as possible, and treating symptoms of struggles before problems escalate. The EPSDT program is offered in the child's school, home or community setting and provides individual and family therapy as well as behavior coaching for the participant and mentoring for the child's parents or guardians.

As a parent or guardian, if you have noticed a significant difference in your child, it is often a good idea to involve a professional to determine if therapy may help your child get through these difficulties.

What To Expect

Step 1.  Ask for a referral from your school. Or call us - we'll send you one.
Step 2.  A therapist will contact your family to schedule an assessment. This will involve both the student and parent/guardian.
Step 3.  If it is determined that your student needs therapy, the therapist will schedule with you and the teacher to see your child at school for 12 weeks.
Step 4.  After the 12 weeks, the parent/guardian and the therapist will decide if therapy should be terminated or not.
Step 5.  If it is determined that the student needs additional therapy, it will continue as planned. Additional resources may be accessed depending on the situation and treatment plan.
